What Should Be Done Before Breast Reduction Surgery?

Breast reduction surgeries require detailed and detailed preparation. The fact that the new breast size to be created can give satisfactory results in terms of both health and aesthetics is directly related to the self-sacrificing pre-operative studies. In this regard, we can list the things that should be done before breast reduction surgery as follows:

First of all, it should be evaluated whether breast enlargement continues in patients who apply for breast reduction surgery.

In the breast examination, it should be evaluated whether there is any mass, whether there is a hormonal problem, whether there is an infection in the breast or whether there is a previous surgical procedure.

Before the operation, breast ultrasound should be used for patients under 40 years of age and mammography imaging techniques should be used for patients over 40 years of age to determine whether there is any mass.

If there is no increase in breast size or a hormonal disorder in the last 6 months, surgery can be planned for the patient.

How is Breast Reduction Surgery Performed?

Breast reduction operations are performed with different techniques according to the size and structure of the existing breast. Before the operation, drawings are made according to the technique that fits the breast size and the amount of tissue to be removed is calculated.

The most commonly applied breast reduction technique is the surgery performed with a lollipop-shaped incision extending down from around the nipple and an inverted T-shaped incision.Breast reduction and lift surgery is performed in the operating room under general anaesthesia. The operation lasts approximately 1.5-3.5 hours depending on the breast size and it is necessary to stay in the hospital for 1 or 2 nights after the operation. Following the removal of the drain, the patient is discharged by wearing a special bra.

What to Do After Breast Reduction Surgery

Breast reduction surgery is not a very painful operation, it can be controlled with painkillers given after the surgery and patients can return to work after 10 days. However, certain points need to be considered in this process.

The bra, which is worn by the patient at discharge following the removal of the drain, should continue to be used for approximately 4-6 weeks. On the 3rd day after the operation, the dressing should be changed after the patients take a shower. In breast reduction surgery, the stitches are not removed because dissolving stitches are used, a rapid regression is observed in oedema after 2-3 weeks, and the breast shape takes its final shape after about 3 months. After 3-4 weeks, patients can start long walking and jogging, and after 6-8 weeks, they can start sports where they can actively use their arms. One year after the operation, mammography and ultrasound should be taken for control.

Shrinkage of breasts after surgery; It reduces neck and back pain and increases the patient's self-confidence by providing the opportunity to choose more comfortable clothes.
