A meniscus tear is the name given to the most common type of painful and debilitating cartilage injury in the knee. Humans have two C-shaped pieces of cartilage in their knees that act as a cushion between the shinbone and thighbone. These are called meniscus.
Protects constantly moving bones from wear and tear. However, tearing of the meniscus is a condition that can occur with the bending of the knee. In some cases, a piece of worn cartilage breaks off and gets stuck between the knee joints, locking the knee and preventing movement.
