The obesity is a disease occurring with the excessive increase of the amount of lipid available in the body. The adipose tissues form up with an average percentage of 15 % of the body weight of an adult woman and 20 % of the body weight of an adult man. The rise of the rate of fat available in the body over 25 – 30 % comes forth as an indication of an obesity (health) problem. In the event that the obesity disease is not treated, it may then be possible that various discomforts (illnesses) such as cholesterol, metabolism disorders, high blood pressure, gout, liver fattening (steatorrhoeic hepatosis), type 2 diabetics, sleep apnea, joint pains and so on.

Patients above 35 BMI are good candidates for surgical obesity treatments such as sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass (unless they have health problems that can prevent them from having surgery). Those between 30-35 BMI can be candidates if they have secondary health issues related to obesity, such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, fatty liver disease, hyperlipidema. 
Besides the surgical options, patients above 27 BMI can have non-surgical procedures (gastric balloon), but higher their BMI goes, lesser the improvement they can have with non-surgical options.
