Hymen repair surgery is an operation that takes approximately 30 minutes, which can be performed under both general and local anesthesia, in a hospital or clinical setting, depending on the preference and scope of the surgery. Hymen repair is commonly performed with the Flap Method and, if concomitant operations such as vaginal tightening are planned, with the microsurgery method.

The flap method is also called “Permanent Hymen Repair”. With this method, the hymen is completely repaired. In the flap method, the normal vaginal mucosa is opened and hymen tissue is tried to be created. Permanent Hymen Repair can be done at least 4-6 weeks before sexual intercourse. During the recovery period, sexual intercourse should be avoided and the procedures recommended by the doctor should be done carefully.

In cases where results are desired in a shorter time, "Temporary Hymen Repair" can be performed. Microsurgery method is preferred in temporary hymen surgery that can be performed 1 day to 10 days before intercourse. The operation time is shorter compared to the flap method. It is preferably performed under local anesthesia. There is no recovery period. The purpose of this method is to ensure bleeding during the first intercourse by suturing the area with microscopic threads.

Hymen repair surgery is a surgery that can be applied to all women over the age of 18 whose hymen is torn in some way. The hymen is not broken only during sexual intercourse. To the vagina area; It can develop due to the introduction of an object, faulty examination, self-satisfaction or a severe blow, sports accidents or many other reasons. Whatever the cause, permanent hymen repair can be performed in the early or late period, if tissue related to the hymen is still found. Hymen repair surgery cannot be performed because it will not be possible to find the remnants of the hymen in people who have had multiple sexual intercourse and have given birth to many.

What Should Be Considered After Hymen Repair (Hymenoplasty) Surgery?

Hymen repair surgery is performed with 2 different methods. The recovery period after permanent hymen repair is longer than after temporary hymen repair. Since the temporary hymen application is usually planned a few days before the sexual intercourse, the things to be considered include the process until the intercourse. However, the duration of permanent hymen repair is longer for the healing process and the things to be considered. The aim here is to ensure that the repaired tissue has a healthy existence for many years.

Many physical activities should be limited during the first week after hymen repair surgery. It is recommended to take a break for 7-10 days from activities such as doing sports, heavy exercises, heavy lifting, gymnastics, ballet that will require opening the legs, and rest as much as possible. At the end of the 7 days following the surgery, light exercises can be started depending on the doctor's control.
