PRK Laser is one of the techniques of excimer laser operation, also known as eye drawing surgery or laser eye surgery among the people. PRK laser is actually the first applied excimer laser technique in the world. However, this does not constitute a negative situation for this method. We achieve very good results with PRK in our patients who are required.

What is PRK Laser? How is it applied?
The word PRK laser is an abbreviation derived from the English word PhotoRefractive Keratectomy. In this method, the uppermost epithelial cell layer of the cornea, which is the layer where the laser is applied in our eyes, is softened by the application of alcohol and removed from the upper part of the cornea. This cell layer is actually like a covering that protects the cornea from external influences. Just below the cell layer is the stroma layer, which is the main tissue of the cornea. Here, the laser process is applied to the stroma layer.

With the laser treatment applied to the stroma layer, the cornea is reshaped and the refractive power is changed. This PRK laser process is finished in seconds. Before the end of the operation, a contact lens is placed in the patient's eye. The cell layer, which is removed at the beginning of the operation, divides rapidly in about 2-3 days and closes the removed open part. 4-5. On days, the patient is called for control and the protective contact lens is removed from the eye during the control.

Recovery Process After PRK Laser Surgery
The reason for placing contact lenses after the operation is to reduce the symptoms such as burning, stinging and watering in the eye. However, these findings are common, especially in the first day. The severity of these findings is closely related to the patient's pain threshold. While some patients recover more easily, some patients may have more severe symptoms.

After the first 1-2 days after the laser, the complaints of burning, stinging and watering pass, the patient cannot see the quality that he sees with glasses immediately before the operation. The level of vision increases within days and reaches the level of vision with glasses before the operation in a few weeks. Until this time, the patient can of course see and do all his work. The increase in vision we are talking about is a comparison to the level of vision with glasses before the operation.

Drops are applied more frequently in the first days after the laser procedure. After 3-4 days, the frequency of instillation decreases and the first month of instillation continues.
