Smart lenses (trifocal lenses) are lenses that enable clear vision at far, near and intermediate distances and are placed inside the eye instead of a natural lens that has lost its transparency. Smart lens surgery is the process of removing and placing these artificial lenses, called trifocal lenses, and the natural lens of the eye, which has lost its feature and is deformed. Although it is a procedure that is mostly preferred in cataract disease, it can also be preferred in advanced visual disorders at early ages.

Intraocular lenses;

  • Monofocal Lens, which is a single focus and used for a single viewing distance
  • Bifocal Lens used for near and far distances
  • Trifocal Lens, which means 3-focal, suitable for all distances including intermediate distance

Trifocal lens is the name given to trifocal intraocular lenses. It provides clear vision at far, near and medium distances. The natural lens, or lens, in the eye, loses its transparency over time. However, it also loses its flexibility and vision deteriorates at long and close distances. In advancing ages, cataracts occur because the transparency is lost. All these eye problems can be eliminated with Trifocal lens surgery, known as smart lens.

Smart lens surgery, which is frequently preferred in cataract treatment, can be performed in the following cases:

Astigmatism
Distant and near vision problems
Cataract
It is generally preferred in older ages. However, those with advanced vision problems and laser, etc. It can also be applied to patients for whom treatment methods are not suitable. The best decision about this will be your doctor.

How is Smart Lens Surgery Performed?
Before the operation, detailed examination and eye measurements should be made. The accuracy of these measurements is very important for the successful outcome of the treatment.

Before the procedure, the eye is anesthetized with anesthetic drops. In this way, it is tried to prevent the patient from feeling pain during the procedure. After the numbing procedure, the natural lens of the eye is removed. The appropriate trifocal lens is placed in the eye. Finally, the operated eye is covered with a bandage to protect it from external factors.
